Jean-Marie Losson was born in 1946, in Belgium. "I lived in the Southern and Northern part of his beautiful country before moving to Germany and the Netherlands." He has been living in the US since 1988.

Fine art and antiques have been the consuming interests of Jean-Marie Losson since his childhood in Belgium, home to old masters as well as more modern artists such as James Ensor, Delvaux and Rene Magritte.

"Art has been in my blood from the beginning, although I followed the traditional path of becoming an engineer and corporate executive."

After 25 years working for one of Belgium's largest and most renowned companies, Jean-Marie decided to devote full time to his driving interests in painting and antique collection.

While corporate life was not of particular interest, it did allow for a life of travel and exposure to other cultures, both in Europe and the United States. "I understand the German expressionist movement better from having lived in Munich for four years. And, my appreciation of the Dutch masters was honed while living in Amsterdam for five years. It is all grist for the mill when exploring painting subjects and styles. I am starting to appreciate the American masters such as Motherwell and Frankenthaler having made the United States my home for over 20 years." Jean-Marie Losson holds a master's degree in engineering from the University of Louvain, Belgium. He has studied under established artists in Europe and the U.S.

From classical Jean-Marie Losson slowly evolved to abstract or semi-abstract painting. He says: "Abstraction is at the same time a lot more demanding than classical painting or portait, but also a lot more liberating (and frustrating too)."

Drawing and painting have always been a passion of mine, together with visual art. I started with watercolor, so demanding, even impossible to master until I discovered oil painting and its endless possibilities. More recently I started acrylic painting which seems to have been created for abstract paintings. My only regret ? I didn’t attend any Art School. Learning, discovering by yourself is quite exciting, but has real limitation

Art is always a wide open door to a new world, a challenge and a constant discovery.
